The Stellar's Jay is native to the southwestern mountainous areas of the US.  Closely related to the Blue Jay that many are familiar with, but slightly larger.  This piece was made with a few areas of open space to show depth in the sculpture and give a bit of a "steampunk" vibe as if the bird had a mechanical structure inside.  The bird stands alone on it's feet at 9.5" tall, 11" long and 4" wide.  Typewriter parts were used in the layering of the wings along with saw blades and other discarded steel items.  Other steel parts were heat treated to give a hint to the blue hue of these birds plumage.  This sculpture has an enamel finish suitable for display indoors.
